I have had the good fortune of being involved with Big Brother Big Sisters for over 30 years. The beauty of what this organization does is in its simplicity – paring a caring adult volunteer with child from a single parent family. The impact on a child’s self-esteem is extraordinary and the statistics of how matched kids stay out of trouble is astounding. I never tire of hearing the stories about what these relationships mean from Bigs, Littles, and their Mothers.
I serve as a Board Member and Treasurer of After the Harvest, as organization that acquires and distributes produce that would otherwise perish on farms and allocates to food banks that service families in need. I appreciate that the mission of AtH goes beyond empty calories by providing access to fresh and nutritious food to those who consider it a luxury. I also value the sustainability aspect of what we do.
I’ve been involved with Boy Scouts of America since 2011, helping my two young boys develop useful life skills as well as grow physically, mentally, and spiritually. As the treasurer for Troop 10, I help keep our unit well organized and operating efficiently. All Scouts memorize and are encouraged to live by the Scout Law in their daily lives: “A Scout is: trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.”
